MAUNDY THURSDAY

Thursday, April 13, 2017, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

7:00 p.m.  Worship service with foot washing in the Nave

WHAT IS MAUNDY THURSDAY ALL ABOUT?

Maundy Thursday is essentially a reenactment of the last days of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  The word “Maundy” comes from the Latin mandatum, the first word of the phrase "Mandatum novum do vobis ut diligatis invicem sicut dilexi vos" ("A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you"), the statement by Jesus in the Gospel of John 13:34.  At the Foot Washing, we remember Jesus’ the servant; and at the Stripping of the Altar after communion, we remember his body being prepared for burial.

In consideration of the solemn nature of this service, we ask that everyone leave the service in silence.  Please remember to stay silent all the way out of the building.  Some remain in prayer in the nave, some proceed to the chapel for prayerful vigil, but all should be silently meditating on the events just re-enacted.
