First Communion Class

First Sunday, from 10/02/2016 to 04/03/2017, 9:15 AM - 10:15 AM

Classes are held the first Sunday of the month (October - March) at 9:15 a.m. in Room 7

This course takes a two pronged approach to teaching children about the Sacrament of the Eucharist.  One part is done in the classroom where the children follow the book, This Bread and This Cup, whose chapters take them step by step through the meaning of the Sacrament.  The second part is done in Church where the children will explore the different areas of the Church, from the Baptismal Font through the Sacristy.  They will practice a Church service and take on the roles usually filled by adults.  They get to be priests, lectors, LEMS, ushers, etc.  Finally they practice taking communion.

On Sunday, April 17, they will receive their First Communion at the 10:30 a.m. service in the company of their families, classmates and congregation.  It is our hope that going through the learning process of the class will make the Eucharist more meaningful for the children, and to help them understand why it is such an important part of our worship.
